An untimely illness knocked an unbeaten fighter out of appearing in the main event of a UniMas card on Saturday night, but in that bout’s place will be an intriguing matchup between once-beaten junior lightweights.

Sergio Nunez will fight Angel Rodriguez on Saturday night at the Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California in an eight-round bout, Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman told RingTV.

Junior lightweight Saul Rodriguez was scheduled to fight Jerry Nardo in the main event bout, according to Goodman, the unbeaten Californian came down with a case of the chicken pox a couple of weeks ago, prompting him to withdraw from the fight.

Nunez (12-1-1, 8 knockouts) resides in nearby Sylmar and has won his last two bouts since losing to Carlos Ramirez in Oct. of 2013. In his last bout on Aug. 23, Nunez won an eight-round split decision over Rafael Reyes.

The Venezuelan-born Rodriguez (11-1, 5 KOs) now resides in Tijuana, Mexico. He has won his last three bouts since his last defeat, also to Carlos Ramirez.

Another junior lightweight prospect will also be showcased on the “Solo Boxeo” telecast. Toka Kahn Clary will fight Edwin Solis in an eight-round bout.

Clary (14-0, 9 KOs), who hails from Liberia, fought five times during 2014, winning all five bouts convincingly. In his last bout on Dec. 13, Clary won an eight-round unanimous decision over Camilo Perez.

Solis (6-2-3, 4 KOs) stopped Yuri Trogiyanov in the sixth round on May 17. Solis is unbeaten in his last six bouts, though three of them were draws.
