Chris Van Heerden and Frankie Gavin have only suffered one apiece loss in their pro careers. Those minor bumps in the road has not slowed down either fighter, and they are now on a collision course toward a meaningful bout that will occur later this year.

The two welterweight contenders will square off in a compelling bout on May 9, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed to RingTV late Tuesday night.

The 12-round bout will take place at the Barclaycard Center in Birmingham, England, and will be televised live on Sky Sports.

The South African-born Van Heerden (22-1-1, 11 knockouts) has won his last eight bouts since losing a close 12-round decision to Nikola Stevanovic in May of 2010.

Van Heerden now makes his residence in Los Angeles-adjacent Santa Monica. He is trained by Freddie Roach at the famed Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.

Gavin (21-1, 13 KOs) will be fighting in his hometown on May 9.

“It’s a massive fight for me and a huge one for my first big night in Birmingham,” said Gavin in a press release. “Fighting in Birmingham means so much to me and now I am going to do so in a massive fight as the headliner of a great bill.”

In his last bout on Nov. 29, Gavin won a hard-fought 12-round unanimous decision over Bradley Skeete in London. He has won his last two bouts since losing a 12-round split decision to Leonard Bundu last August.
