Undefeated junior welterweight prospect Jose Ramirez will face an opponent to be determined on May 9 at the the Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif., Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum announced on Thursday.

“We are very proud of Jose for what he has accomplished in the ring, just as important, the way he has helped his community.” said Arum of Ramirez, whose bout will be televised on UniMas’ “Solo Boxeo Tecate” starting at at 11 p.m. ET/PT. “He is a very special athlete, a future world champion. We are very excited to return to Fresno on May 9.”

A 22-year-old 2012 Olympian, Ramirez is coming off last month’s sixth round technical knockout of Antonio Arellano that followed a 50-second knockout of David Rodela in October, the latter before a large crowd at the Selland Arena.

An 11-time National Champion and all-time USA Boxing lightweight record holder, Ramirez’s fight is part of his ongoing “Fight for Water” campaign to help the Latino Water Coalition as it assists in the resolution of the state’s water crisis and promotion of economic growth in the area where he was raised.

“There is no place like home and I’m ready,” said Ramirez. “It’s an honor to fight in front of my friends, family and community. Nothing is more important than fighting for water.”

EVERTON LOPES, JASON QUIGLEY TO RETURN ON SEPARATE DATES

Brazilian lightweight Everton Lopes, a 26-year-old southpaw and two-time Olympian, will make his professional debut on Feb. 27 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, Indio, Calif., according to a release by Sheer Sports Management.

Returning to action on March 6 at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles will be Irish super middleweight Jason Quigley (3-0, 3 KOs), 23, who will pursue his fourth straight win since his pro debut last July.

Lopes signed with Golden Boy Promotions earlier this month, as did Quigley in April of last year.
