JESSIE MAGDALENO TO SHOW ‘POWER, TIMING, SPEED’

Undefeated junior featherweight prospect Jessie Magdaleno plans to show “a lot of power, timing and speed” against once-beaten Erik Ruiz in Saturday’s Top Rank Promotions’ UniMas-televised main event from the Texas Station Hotel Casino in Magdaleno’s hometown of Las Vegas.

A 23-year-old southpaw who is managed by Frank Espinoza, Magdaleno (19-0, 15 knockouts) has stopped his last six opponents. Magdaleno is trained by Joel Diaz, who also handles two-division titlist Tim Bradley.

Ruiz (13-1, 6 KOs), also 23, has won four consecutive fights, two by knockout, since falling by majority decision to Isaac Zarate in August 2013. Managed by Mike Levy, Ruiz is trained by Robert Garcia, who also works with Nonito Donaire, Mikey Garcia and Brandon Rios.

In the opening televised bout, junior middleweight Rodrigo Garcia, of Los Angeles, will pursue his 17th consecutive victory against Jailton DeJesus Souza of Brazil.

Southpaw featherweight southpaw Victor Pasillas will also face Karl Garcia of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
