THE RING’s No. 10-ranked junior lightweight contender Javier Fortuna, who signed with powerful adviser Al Haymon in August, has renewed his contract with Sampson Lewkowicz, the promoter announced on Wednesday.

A 25-year-old switch-hitter from the Dominican Republic, Fortuna (26-0-1, 19 knockouts) rose from a second-round knockdown to secure last month’s fifth-round knockout victory over Abner Cotto, whom he crumpled to the canvas with a left hook.

“This is my gift for this year, to continue working with a budding superstar like Javier,” said Lewkowicz of Fortuna, who is 5-0-1, with four knockouts over the course of his past six fights.

“He is on the verge of stardom and, like all my fighters, he is also like a son to me. I admire all of their loyalty and I wish them all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. The year 2015 will be a great one for my fighters and for boxing.”
