English heavyweight David Price will fight in Berlin, Germany, on Feb. 21, as part of the card supporting the super middleweight title rematch between WBO beltholder Arthur Abraham and Paul Smith.

At a press conference in Merseyside on Thursday to promote the anticipated Abraham-Smith II showdown, it was announced the 31-year-old heavyweight hopeful would also be featured that night with an opponent to be confirmed in the next few days.

Liverpool man Price, who had surgery on a long-term hand injury in June, had been slated to make his comeback last weekend against Emiliano Zarate but was forced to withdraw from that bout because of a minor bicep injury.

“It’s great to be fighting on the undercard of such a big show,” said Price (18-2, 15 knockouts) to the media at the Liverpool Hilton Hotel. “I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and reminding everyone what I’m all about. 2015 is going to be a big year for me and it’s important I get off to a good start on Feb. 21.”

Price has become something of a forgotten force on the British heavyweight scene since crushing back-to-back losses to American Tony Thompson in 2013. Despite winning his last three bouts, he remains in the shadows of unbeaten countrymen Tyson Fury (22-0,17 KOs), THE RING’s No. 3-rated heavyweight, and Anthony Joshua, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist who has enjoyed an explosive ten-fight winning start to his professional career.

German promoter Kalle Sauerland, though, is convinced 6-foot-8 Price is poised over the next 12 months to re-emerge as a serious threat to the division, domestically at least.

“Next year is going to be David’s time to shine. It’s time to stand up and be counted,” said Sauerland. “The heavyweight scene in the UK is flourishing at the moment, and it is still our belief that Pricey can beat anyone out there.”
