Russian cruiserweight star Denis Lebedev bounced back from last year’s controversial stoppage loss to Guillermo Jones by scoring a chilling one-punch second-round knockout of unbeaten Polish standout Pawel Kolodziej on Saturday in Moscow.

Lebedev (26-2, 20 knockouts), who retained the WBA title with the victory, stalked the rangy stick-and-mover from the opening bell. THE RING’s No. 3-rated contender was able to land his southpaw jab to Kolodziej (33-1, 18 KOs), which set up the huge, looping overhand left that crashed the challenger to the canvas in Round 2.

Lebedev, who trained with Freddie Roach and had the hall of famer in his corner, got back into the win column after suffering an 11th-round KO to Jones last May. The WBA title bout was a brutal Fight of the Year candidate that ended when Lebedev suffered grotesque swelling around his right eye.

However, Jones was stripped of the WBA belt after testing positive for a banned substance. A rematch was ordered for April but the Panamanian veteran again tested positive a week before the fight and it was cancelled.
