According to his promoter, IBF junior featherweight titleholder Kiko Martinez will “prove that he is a better fighter,” on Sept. 6 against Carl Frampton, who handed Martinez his last loss by ninth round stoppage in February 2013.

The bout between THE RING’s number three-rated 122-pounder, Martinez (31-4, 23 knockouts), of Spain, and, THE RING’s number one-rated Frampton (18-0, 13 KOs), of Northern Ireland, will be televised on AWE.

Frampton-Martinez I took place at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, whereas their return bout is slated for the Titanic Quarter in Belfast.

In his last fight in April, Frampton, 27, scored his fourth straight stoppage, doing so in the second round against Hugo Fidel Cazares.

Promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz and Gary Shaw, Martinez is managed by former RING middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, whose trainer, Gabriel Sarmiento is also Kiko Martinez’s coach. Martinez will be in pursuit of his fifth straight knockout win in his third defense against Frampton.

“Kiko Martinez will prove that he is a better fighter and a great fighter this time because to be a good fighter, you have to be ready, mentally. Otherwise, being physically ready does not always help you,” said Lewkowicz in an interview with RingTV.com.

“When he fought Frampton the first time, he was not ready. He was having problems with his management, his coach; everything was wrong. Today, he is a great champion with a great coach in Gabriel Sarmiento and he has a great team with Maravilla Boxing and with Sergio as his manager, Gary Shaw and myself as his promoters.”

Martinez is coming off a seventh round technical knockout of ex-titleholder Hozumi Hasegawa in April in Japan.

Prior to Hasegawa, Martinez, 28, was last in action for December’s ninth round knockout of South African former titleholder Jeffrey Mathebula.
