Has Chris Algieri visualized defeating Manny Pacquiao?

Chris Algieri anticipates “a very humble and cordial” press tour with Manny Pacquiao that will be comprised of stops in China, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York.

“I’ve never met Manny but from what I’ve heard and from what I’ve seen, he’s just a great guy and I’ve heard really good things about him,” said Algieri (20-0, 8 knockouts), the WBO’s 140-pound beltholder, in a video that can be viewed here.

“This is not going to be one of those press tours where there’s a lot of animosity and trash-talking, which I’m looking forward to. I think that it’s going to be a very humble and cordial event and I’m looking forward to it. I think that it’s going to be very classy between two champions who are meeting and we’ll be in several different countires. I’m looking forward to that.”

Algieri, 30, will be making his first trip to Asia on Nov. 22 in Macao, China, to challenge Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) for his WBO welterweight belt.

Pacquiao-Algieri will be televised on HBO Pay-Per-View at the Venetian Casino, where Pacquiao unanimously decisioned Brandon Rios in November.

The first stop in the estimated 27,273-mile tour is scheduled for Monday at the Venetian Macao.

Pacquiao, 35, was last in action in April, dethroning Tim Bradley by unanimous decision to regain the belt he lost by split decision to Bradley in June 2012. Between his first bout with Bradley and the Rios fight, Pacquiao lost via six-round stoppage in December 2012 by Juan Manuel Marquez, against whom Pacquiao is 2-1-1.

In June, Algieri rose from three first round knockdowns en route to a disputed split decision victory over Ruslan Provodnikov, from whom Algieri won the WBO junior welterweight title.

“Visualization exercises are a large part of my game, so I’ve already thought about that. I’ve thought about the travel; I’ve thought about the press tour and I’ve thought the conferences and I’ve thought about the training camp,” said Algieri.

“I’ve thought about seeing myself across from Manny [in the ring] and being able to see and visualize it is a very important part of my game, so that’s already begun. So there is a lot of work to be done.”

Has Algieri visualized his hand being raised in victory?

“I haven’t gotten that far yet. I’ve started way far out,” said Algieri. “I think about everything leading up to that but that will start in the next couple of weeks though.”
