Shawn Porter vs Kell Brook fukuda

After Kell Brook’s upset majority decision victory over Shawn Porter on Saturday evening, RingTV.com sought the scores of 15 boxing insiders.

Now the IBF welterweight titlist, Brook (33-0, 22 knockouts) won by scores of 116-112 and 117-111 on the cards of judges Adalaide Byrd (Nevada) and Max De Luca (California), respectively, with Dave Parris (England) scoring the bout even at 114-114.

RingTV.com had it 117-112 for Brook, who enjoyed an overall advantage in punches (158-to-154) and jabs (87-to-24), but trailed in power shots (130-to-74).

Brook made only his second appearance on American soil against Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs), having debuted in Atlantic City with a fifth round stoppage of Luis Galarza in 2011.

It should be noted that all of the 21 insiders polled by RingTV.com picked Porter to defeat Brook.

The results of those reached by RingTV.com for their scores are as follows:

For Kell Brook:

Jake Donovan, BoxingScene.com

Kell Brook, 117-111:.The only deterrent would be the constant clinching and mauling but Shawn Porter was largely ineffective, even when more active. Kell Brook’s cleaner punches far outweighed Porter’s aggression in most rounds. No rematch, please.

Norm Frauenheim, THE RING magazine, www.15rounds.com

I scored it for Kell Brook, 115-113. Brook was simply able to do more things, relying on his jab early, movement in the middle rounds and combinations late. Shawn Porter’s only answer was aggression. Without a stoppage, that wasn’t enough.

Jeffrey Freeman, www.KODigest.TV

I scored it 117-111 for Kell Brook. The last 10 seconds of the final round told the truth of the fight and it was written all over the dejected face of Shawn Porter after the final bell.

Evidently, the British judge tried too hard to appear impartial by scoring it dead even. That fight was no draw. Brook clearly defeated Shawn Porter and had him in boxing checkmate as early as the sixth. Precision punching trumps ineffective aggression.

Tom Gray, RingTV.com

Kell Brook, 116-112.

Lee Groves, RingTV.com

I had it 115-113 for Kell Brook. Four very close rounds with each getting two of them. I liked Brook’s sharper and cleaner punching in more of the rounds.

Paulie Malignaggi, two-division titlewinner and Showtime boxing analyst

I had it 8-4, Kell Brook [116-112.] Both guys fought a tough fight. Good entertaining fight.

Ryan Maquinana, CSNBAYAREA/BoxingScene.com

I had it 115-113 for Kell Brook.

Rich Marotta, KFI Radio, Los Angeles

I watched it on television and had it 115-113 for Kell Brook.

Jack Obermayer, Fight Fax Inc.

I had it 115-113, Kell Brook.

John J. Raspanti, MaxBoxing.com/Doghouseboxing.com/KO Monthly Magazine

I had Kell Brook winning the fight, 115-113.

Cliff Rold, BoxingScene.com

I had it 117-112, Kell Brook.

Charles Villa, guest/fan, Portland, Ore.

Watching the T.V, telecast, I had it 115-113 for Kell Brook. The more effective work appeared to be coming from “Special K.”

For Porter:

Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA 160-pound titleholder Gennady Golovkin

I thought it was a lot closer than the judges had it. In my book, Shawn Porter won a razor-thin decision, landed more shots on the inside – unlike Marcos Maidana, who missed a lot against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Kell Brook was effective at long range but did not do enough to win so convincingly. I think that 114-114 would have been fair and for me, it would have been 114-113 for Porter because of a point deduction [for holding.]

Even:

Francisco Salazar, RingTV.com

I know that I’m in the minority but I had it 114-114. Most at press row in Carson had it 115-113 for Kell Brook.

Bob Velin, USA Today

I had it 114-114.

Total: Twelve for Brook, one for Porter, two even.
