After Saturday night’s welterweight clash in which Brandon Rios won by ninth-round disqualification over Diego Chaves, RingTV.com asked 10 boxing insiders how they scored the bout up to that point.

Eight of them also provided their tallies for the junior welterweight bout won by Jessie Vargas over Anton Novikov with scores of 118-111, 118-111 and 117-111. The fight took place in Las Vegas, Vargas’ hometown.

Jake Donovan, BoxingScene.com

Brandon Rios vs. Diego Chaves: I had Brandon Rios up 75-74 at time of DQ.

Chaves winning rounds: 1, 3 (-1 pt), 4, 6.

Rios rounds: 2, 5 (-1 pt), 7, 8 (+1 pt docked from Chaves).

Jessie Vargas vs. Anton Novikov: I had the fight scored 114-114 even.

Vargas rounds: 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 12

Novikov rounds: 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11

Norm Frauenheim, THE RING magazine, www.15rounds.com

Brandon Rios vs. Diego Chaves: I had it for Diego Chaves, 76-73. In a bout that should have ended with both fighters disqualified, Chaves was the only one to suffer the DQ despite a one-point lead on two scorecards. He was the first to retaliate and he paid a price for it.

In the first two rounds, he seized the momentum, yet failed to build on it because of penalties in the third and eighth. But repeated rights and lateral movement were still enough for Chaves to lead by three points on this card.

Jessie Vargas vs. Diego Chaves: Jessie Vargas got off to a fast start, but faltered, allowing Anton Novikov to outwork him. On this card, it was 114-114.

That reflected the CompuBox stats. Novikov landed 27 percent of his punches; Vargas landed 24 percent. In the power-shot category, Vargas led, 33 percent to 31 percent.

Brandon Rios vs. Diego Chaves: Brandon Rios was winning the fight 5-3 in rounds after eight. Diego Chaves lost two points for fouls, and Rios lost one for nothing. I had it 76-73 for Rios going into the ninth.

Jessie Vargas vs. Diego Chaves: The Vegas judges fought harder for Jessie Vargas than Jessie did. Vargas won the fight by a point or two, not six or seven. I scored it 115-113 for Vargas.

Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA 160-pound titleholder Gennady Golovkin

Brandon Rios vs. Diego Chaves: I thought Diego Chaves was up at least by one and maybe two points. Vic Drakulich lost control early and allowed Brandon Rios to rub his head across Chavez’s face. Then it got rough by both. I thought the DQ was not justified in such a good, close, rough fight.

Jessie Vargas vs. Anton Novikov: For the Jessie Vargas-Anton Novikov fight, the scoring was ridiculous. It was maybe a draw, or by one point either way would of been fair.

Bradley Starks, guest/fan, Novato, Calif.

Brandon Rios vs. Diego Chaves: I had it even at 75-75 going into the ninth. I scored the first round 10-10. Vic Draculich gave Diego Chaves three warnings for holding before the first point deduction.

There was one warning in the first round and two more warnings in the second. After the second warning in Round 2, Drakulich said he’d take a point the next time it happened.

Charles Villa, guest/fan, Portland, Ore.

Brandon Rios vs. Diego Chaves: I had it 75-74 for Brandon Rios. I am shocked at what appeared to be accurate cards.

Jessie Vargas vs. Anton Novikov: I had it 7-5 for Novikov, but 7-5 Vargas would have been a suitable card.

Totals: The insiders’ scoring favored Diego Chaves over Brandon Rios, 5-4, with one card being even, and scored the Jessie Vargas-Anton Novikov bout two for Vargas, and two for Novikov, with four cards being even.
