Junior middleweight Glen Tapia will face Salim Larbi instead of Boyd Melson, who suffered a torn rotator cuff injury during a sparring session on Tuesday, at New York’s Madison Square Garden on July 26, Tapia’s manager, Pat Lynch, informed RingTV.com. The bout will be on the undercard of a main event featuring Gennady Golovkin against Daniel Geale.

“I felt it stretch when I was throwing a punch and I immediately knew something wasn’t right. I tried to work through it but the pain only got worse,” said Melson. “First, my shoulder started to throb, then it got cold. Since I hurt my rotator cuff and had surgery twice in the past, I know what a tear feels like.”

Larbi (19-5-2, 7 knockouts), 27, of France, is 3-4 in his past seven fights and was last in action for a unanimous decision loss to Jack Culcay in April.

“I don’t like this last-minute stuff but what are you going to do?” said Lynch, whose fighter is trained by Freddie Roach. “Glen’s had a good, solid camp and he’s ready to fight. We did not want to ruin this opportunity to fight in front of all of these great fans at Madison Square Garden.”

GOLDEN BOY LIVE!: MERCITO GESTA 138.5, LUIS ARCEO 137

Lightweight contender Mercito Gesta and rival Luis Arceo weighed 138.5 and 137, respectively, for Friday’s fight at Long Shoremen’s Hall in San Francisco, which will be televised by FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes on a “Golden Boy Live!” show.

A southpaw, Gesta (27-1-1, 15 KOs) was last in action for an eighth-round stoppage of Edgar Riovalle in April to bounce back from a unanimous-decision loss to IBF titleholder Miguel Vazquez in December 2012. Arceo (28-12-4, 18 KOs) is coming off a third-round knockout loss to Jose Zepeda in October.

For the co-main event, Jonathan Chicas and Emmanuel Robles both weighed 142 pounds. For a third fight featuring the nearly seven-foot tall Chinese heavyweight Taishan Dong in his professional debut against Alex Rozman, their official weights were 287 and 255, respectively.
