Mauricio Herrera defeated Johan Perez by a majority decision in a 12-round junior welterweight fight on the Canelo Alvarez-Erislandy Lara card Saturday in Las Vegas.

The fight was competitive from the opening bell, with both fighters winging hard, accurate punches from close range in many spirited exchanges. However, Herrera (21-4, 7 knockouts) swayed two judges by outworking Perez (19-2-1, 13 KOs).

One judge scored it a 114-114 draw but two scored it for Herrera 116-112, or eight rounds to four. Herrera connected on 227 of 715 punches, according to CompuBox. Perez landed 170 of 689.

Herrera was coming off a strong performance in a majority-decision loss to Danny Garcia in March.
