Glen Tapia scored an 82-second knockout over Keenan Collins on Saturday at Bally's in Atlantic City, the town where the 24-year-old junior middleweight prospect had lost his previous fight in December by sixth-round stoppage to James Kirkland.

In victory, Tapia rose to 21-1 with his 13th knockout. The 37-year-old Collins (15-9-3, 10 KOs), of York, Pa., had last been in the ring for a fourth-round stoppage loss to Danny Jacobs last April.

Tapia had been inspired by "watching a teammate" Miguel Cotto's 10th-round knockout on June 7 that dethroned Sergio Martinez as RING and WBC middleweight champion. Tapia had spent nearly the previous two months training alongside Cotto and WBO junior welterweight titleholder Ruslan Provodnikov under the guidance of Freddie Roach at the six-time "Trainer of The Year"'s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, Calif.

Roach was not in Tapia's corner, however, as the fighter was guided by an assistant to Roach in Ernie Zavala and veteran cutman Miguel Diaz. Meanwhile, Roach was with Provodnikov when the Siberian fighter was dethroned as titleholder following a split-decision loss to Chris Algieri, who rose from two first-round knockdowns Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

In other bouts on the Tapia-Collins card, welterweight Julian Rodriguez (4-0, 3KOs) scored a knockout over Angel Figueroa (3-1-1), who retired on his stool between the first and second rounds.

Also, junior lightweight Toka Kahn Clary (12-0, 8KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Jose Haro (8-1, 6KOs), welterweight Egidijus Kavaliauskas (6-0, 5 KOs) won by fourth-round knockout over Larry Darnell Ventus (6-6-1, 3KOs), flyweight Angel Acosta (7-0, 7KOs) stopped Eduardo Valenzuela (5-5-1, 1KO) in the third round, welterweight prospect Mike Reed (10-0, 6KOs) unanimously decisioned Alberto Morales (11-4-1, 8KOs). The scores were 60-53 across the board.
