RING and WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez vows his bout with three-division titlewinner Miguel Cotto on June 7 at New York's Madison Square Garden "will definitely be [Cotto]'s farewell fight to what was a great career."

Martinez (51-2-2, 28 knockouts) made his comments during a Monday workout in Miami, sharing his thoughts, among other things, on the fact that Cotto, 33, will be under the guidance of trainer Freddie Roach.

Cotto (38-4, 31 knockouts) is attempting to become the first Puerto Rican fighter to win four titles in as many divisions against Martinez, a veteran southpaw who turned 39 in February and has not fought since April 2013 when he unanimously decisioned Martin Murray in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"This training camp has been tremendously efficient. Everything has exceeded all of my expectations. The Miami weather and atmosphere has made this his most memorable camp in recent history. I couldn’t be happier with the way things have gone thus far," said Martinez.

"I feel great. The time off has allowed my injuries to properly and fully heal and my entire body has never felt better. I know that Cotto is working very hard for this fight with Freddie Roach but there is no doubt in my mind that this will definitely be his farewell fight to what was a great career."
