There was lots of good action involving RING-rated fighters last week but the most significant bout was between the magazine’s welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana, who advanced in the 147-pound rankings by giving the pound-for-pound king a real fight.

Super middleweight: No. 3-rated Arthur Abraham (40-4, 28 knockouts) retained his WBO title defeating Serbia’s Nikola Sjekloca by unanimous decision. J’Leon Love (18-0, 19 KOs) got up from a knockdown to beat No. 9-rated Marco Antonio Periban (20-2-1, 13 KOs) via decision. Periban will be dropped from the ratings and Love will enter at No. 10 with Maxim Vlasov (29-1, 14 KOs) moving up to No. 9.

Junior middleweight: No. 10-rated Ishe Smith (26-6, 12 KOs) bounced back from losing his IBF crown last time out to stop hapless journeyman Ryan Davis in two rounds. No change.

Welterweight: Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) retained his RING and WBC titles and won the WBA crown with a majority decision over tough Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs). No movement for Mayweather since he is our champion. In defeat, Maidana earned more than he has from previous wins. Maidana will move from No. 8 to No. 6 with Keith Thurman dropping to No. 7 and Robert Guerrero dropping to No. 8. Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KOs) was at No. 9 but he is now fighter at junior welterweight and will be dropped from the welterweight ratings. Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) will enter the welterweight ratings at No. 9.  The revised 147-pound ratings are:

Champion: Floyd Mayweather Jr.

No. 1: Manny Pacquiao, 56-5-2, 38 KOs

No. 2: Timothy Bradley, 31-1, 12 KOs

No. 3: Juan Manuel Marquez: 55-7-1, 40 KOs

No. 4: Shawn Porter: 24-0-1, 15 KOs

No. 5: Kell Brook, 32-0, 22 KOs

No. 6: Marcos Maidana, 35-4, 31 KOs

No. 7: Keith Thurman, 23-0, 21 KOs

No. 8: Robert Guerrero, 31-2-1, 18 KOs

No. 9: Amir Khan, 29-3, 19 KOs

No. 10: Paulie Malignaggi, 33-6, 7 KOs

Junior welterweight: Khan is now campaigning at 147. He will be taken out at No. 3 and moved to No.9 in the welterweight ratings. Broner was rated No. 9 in the welterweight ratings and is now fighting at 140 so he will be put in at No. 6 at junior welterweight. Lamont Peterson will move up to No. 3; Mike Alvarado will move up to No.4; Zab Judah will move up to No. 5. Nos. 7 through 10 will remain the same. 

Featherweight: No. 7-rated Javier Fortuna (24-0-1, 18 KOs), who has fought his last three bouts at junior lightweight, will be dropped from the 126-pound rankings. Recent WBO featherweight title challenger Vasyl Lomachenko will enter the rankings at No. 10.

Junior bantamweight: No. 4-rated Tepparith Singwancha (26-3, 16 KOs), who has fought his last four bouts at bantamweight, will be dropped from the 115-pound rankings. Kohei Kono (30-8, 13 KOs), who scored fourth-round KO of Singwancha in 2012, will enter at No. 10.

Junior flyweight: No. 1-rated Donnie Nietes (32-1-4, 18 KOs) will square off with No. 3-rated Moises Fuentes (19-1-1, 19 KOs) on Saturday. The Ratings Panel has OK’d this bout to be for THE RING’s vacant junior flyweight title. No. 2-rated Kazuto Ioka (14-0, 9 KOs) fights for the IBF flyweight title today.
