Next week will be a busy one for Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who will not only be promoting the May 3 Showtime Pay Per View clash between RING and WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and WBA counterpart Marcos Maidana, but also working on a number of upcoming bouts as well.

Next week, Mayweather-Maidana will be supported by Amir Khan-Luis Collazo, as well as the 140-pound debut of three-division titlewinner Adrien Broner opposite Carlos Molina, and unbeaten middleweight J'Leon Love against former title challenger Marcos Antonio Periban at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In addition, Mayweather will be named the recipient of The Sugar Ray Robinson award for the 2013 Fighter Of The Year from the Boxing Writers Association of America, whose May 1 dinner will also recognize Mayweather's advisor, Al Haymon, as the winner of The Cus D'Amato "Manager Of The Year" award.

"There will be a lot of discussions with Al Haymon next week. These Mayweather fight weeks and weekends, they're like a big boxing convention. The decision-makers are usually there," Schaefer said during a Wednesday interview with RingTV.com. "So besides promoting the fight and so on, there's a lot of meetings taking place. I'm going to take full advantage of that and see if I can hopefully get some answers."

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING TRIPLEHEADER

First up, however, is Saturday's tripleheader at The StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., on Showtime, which is headlined by welterweight boxer-puncher Keith "One Time" Thurman against two-time lightweight titlewinner Julio Diaz with support from THE RING's No. 1-rated junior welterweight Lucas Matthysse opposite rugged lightweight puncher John Molina, and WBC lightweight titleholder Omar Figueroa Jr. facing spoiler Jerry Belmontes.

"Right now, my main focus is this weekend's card, where we have Thurman and Matthysse coming back, two of the most exciting fighters in the sport," said Schaefer. "And then, next week, the big Mayweather pay per view week. So right now, I'm focusing on that and working toward other fights. For the time being, I have my hands full with these other things."

SCHAEFER: SHAWN PORTER-KELL BROOK IS A MAIN EVENT

Schaefer said "the sky is the limit" for IBF welterweight titleholder Shawn Porter in the wake of last Saturday's fourth-round technical knockout of Paulie Malignaggi.

On Monday, Porter learned that he and Golden Boy have until July to make his second defense against England's unbeaten Kell Brook. Golden Boy and Matchroom Sport, which handles Brook, have until May 21 to reach a deal. If not, a purse bid will be ordered, said IBF President Daryl Peoples, adding that Porter and Golden Boy were granted an exception to make the match with Malignaggi.

Although Porter's father and trainer, Kenny Porter, would like his son and Brook to land on the undercard of a planned fight between junior middleweights Canelo Alvarez and Erislandy Lara, slated for Showtime Pay-Per-View on July 12 at the MGM Grand, Schaefer said that prospect is not likely.

"That would be difficult to achieve because there's a mandatory obligation, which is Kell Brook, and I really don't see that that is an undercard fight," said Schaefer. "That's a main event fight, and so I'm going to be sitting down with Al Haymon next week and seeing what the plans are. But I do not believe that that would be on the Canelo card."

DEVON ALEXANDER-JESUS SOTO KARASS ON ALVAREZ-LARA CARD?

Former titleholder Devon Alexander was dethroned by Porter following a unanimous decision on Dec. 7, a week prior to Jesus Soto Karass' ninth-round stoppage loss to Thurman on Dec. 14.

Rumors have circulated that Alexander could face Soto Karass, and Schaefer likes that idea, particularly as a support to the Alvarez-Lara card.

"I am intrigued by the Devon Alexander-Soto Karass fight, without any question, so I'm going to be discussing that a bit more with [Golden Boy Vice President and matchmaker] Eric Gomez and with Al as well," said Schaefer. "But one spot that I could see for that fight would be, depending on the budget and so on, would defintely see that potentially on the Canelo card."

Also, Golden Boy outbid Top Rank for the right to promote Gary Russell Jr. and Vasyl Lomachenko in their fight for the organization's vacant featherweight title, one which Schaefer said is likely to happen on June 21.

Russell-Lomachenko is likely at StubHub Center.

To that end, Schaefer said he would like to land three-division titlewinner Abner Mares and former welterweight titleholder Robert Guerrero on the Russell-Lomachenko card.

Mares was dethroned as WBC featherweight titleholder following a first-round knockout loss to Jhonny Gonzalez in August, this, after having earned the belt from Daniel Ponce de Leon via ninth-round stoppage last May. Ponce de Leon had taken the title from Gonzalez following an eighth-round technical decision in September 2012.

Guerrero has been out of action since last May, when he lost by unanimous decision to Mayweather.

"We're looking at having on June 21 potentially the return of Abner Mares and obviously the Russell-Lomachenko fight," said Schaefer. "I'm going to be talking next week with Al to see if we can get Robert Guerrero back into the ring. So that's sort of the plan. On June 21, that's what I'm trying to do. I have no guarantee, but I'm working on all of those things."
