WBO 140-pound titleholder Ruslan Provodnikov's first defense against Chris Algieri on June 14 could be moved from the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, N.Y., to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, according to several sources close to the information.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer informed RingTV.com that he gave the okay to Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark for the bout to take place at the home of the Brooklyn Nets, since Golden Boy has an exclusive promotional deal with the venue. Schaefer said he was asked by Yormark.

"I was asked by the Barclays Center people if I would be okay if they were to do the Provodnikov fight from Barclays Center and I said, 'Absolutely, I have no problem with it,'" said Schaefer, whose organization has held seven fights at Barclays Center over the past 18 months.

"We have a deal with Barclays Center, but I have no problem with [Provodnikov’s promoter] Artie Pelullo going there with the Provodnikov. I know that HBO has been at Barclays Center before for a show that we did with them, and Barclays Center is one of the best venues in the world, and I think that it provides a terrific experience for people who can watch boxing from Barclays Center, so I have no problem with it."

In his past two fights, Provodnikov (23-2, 19 knockouts) scored a 12th-round knockdown during a unanimous-decision loss to WBO welterweight titleholder Tim Bradley in RingTV.com's 2013 Fight of the Year, followed by a 10th-round stoppage over Mike Alvarado for his current belt. Algieri (19-0, 8 KOs) was last in the ring for a unanimous decision over Emmanuel Taylor in February.
