IBF junior middleweight titleholder Carlos Molina has remained in jail at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas since his arrest on March 4 and awaits an April 8 extradition hearing. His promoter, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing, confirmed this on Wednesday.

Molina's arrest forced the cancelation of his scheduled March 8 optional defense against Jarmall Charlo and attorneys in Wisconsin, Nevada and California are working to free Molina, according to The Associated Press.

A Mexican-born fighter who lives in Chicago, Molina is wanted in Wisconsin for obstruction and failing to register as a sex offender, according to a Clark County Detention Center spokesperson. U.S. immigration officials told The Associated Press that Molina was deported in 2006 and could be removed once again in the wake of his arrest.

"He has an extradition hearing as it relates to Wisconsin and not to Mexico. He has hired lawyers to represent him," said Margules, referring to the January 2007 warrant relating to the sex offense case.

"There is nothing set as it relates to the federal case [regarding Molina’s U.S. citizenship status]. They're independent situations and they work differently. I'm just hoping that he gets out and that he can continue his career as soon as possible."

Molina, 30, has until June to make the mandatory defense of his belt or risk being stripped, according to organization official Lindsey Tucker. Molina has nine months from September, when he dethroned Ishe Smith by split decision, to defend his title, according to Tucker.

"He beat Ishe Smith on September 14 and we will notify him on April 14 and then his mandatory is due on June 14," said Tucker, during an earlier interview with RingTV.com.
