Welterweight contender Luis Carlos Abregu, who has been out of action since last April because of a right hand injury, will return to action on April 4 in his native Argentina, his agent, Sean Gibbons informed RingTV.com on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Abregu (35-1, 28 knockouts) will fight in his hometown of Salta against 29-year-old Jean Carlos Prada (30-0-1, 21 KOs) of Venezuela.

Abregu has won six straight fights, five of them by stoppage, since falling by unanimous decision to Tim Bradley in July 2010. Among Abregu's knockouts during his run was against previously unbeaten prospect Thomas Dulorme, a seventh-round stoppage in October 2012.

In his last fight, Abregu scored a unanimous decision over Antonin Decarie, who entered their fight with a mark of 27-1.

Gibbons said Abregu initially hurt his right hand against Bradley, and then re-injured it against Dulorme. Prada, 29, was last in the ring for a second-round knockout of Esteban Diaz in November.

"If Abregu can stay healthy," said Gibbons, "a title shot could come sooner than later."
