Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes that Marcos Maidana "wanted it more" than Adrien Broner, whom Maidana dropped twice and dethroned as WBA welterweight titleholder in December.

Mayweather also stated his desire for Broner and former 140-pound titleholder Amir Khan to appear on the undercard of the Showtime Pay Per View-televised May 3 defense of his RING and WBC championships against Maidana from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather made his comments in an interview with Showtime's Brian Kenny during Saturday night's telecast of Canelo Alvarez's 10th-round stopapge of Alfredo Angulo.

Mayweather explained, once again, why he selected Maidana over Khan, owner of a unanimous decision over Maidana in December 2010.

"Maidana, he has been very, very impressive. His last four fights, 4-0, three knockouts. He looked tremendous…Of course it's a sport, but when it's all said and done, it's business," said Mayweather of Khan, who has been involved in an ongoing Twitter war with Broner.

"Is Amir Khan's name still in the lottery drawing? Absolutely. Absulotely, but we must take one fight at a time, and, hopefully, May 3, Amir Khan and Adrien Broner both can be on the undercard to make the card that much more explosive."

Floyd Mayweather Jr. on why he picked Maidana over Khan:

On Maidana's performance against Broner:

"Marcos Maidana against Adrien Broner, he went out there, he was the better man, and he was the better fighter, I think that he wanted it more. He wanted to win more."

On why Maidana was able to hit Broner:

"I think that it's different levels. Adrien Broner is used to fighting a stationary target to where he can pick a guy apart, to where, with Maidana, it's an all out war. He's coming straight ahead. No matter what you're throwing, he's throwing back."

On how Maidana will do against him:

"I think that if he faces Floyd Mayweather, it's going to be a totally different look. But Maidana, he's a champion like myself. He's a champion, and he's a guy that I can't overlook.

"I've got to go out there and dedicate myself and be ready, because Maidana is going to bring the best out of Floyd Mayweather on May 3."

On Khan and Broner being on the May 3 card:

"Of course it's a sport, but when it's all said and done, it's business. Is Amir Khan's name still in the lottery drawing? Absolutely.

"Absolutely, but we must take one fight at a time, and, hopefully, May 3, Amir Khan and Adrien Broner both can be on the undercard to make the card that much more explosive."

On his advice to Broner:

"I've talked with Adrien Broner, yes, and I told him that it's different at this level. I think that Adrien Broner needs to focus more on the sport of boxing.

"Dedicating himself to the sport of boxing, and not worry about being a rap artist, and not worry about being on social media so much."

On the difference between him and Broner:

"Floyd Mayweather took the hard route. This is my 18th year in the sport of boxing, and I've been a world champion for 17 years, so I've earned my stripes, and I've dedicated myself to my craft, to whereas Adrien Broner, he had the right fights.

"But when you're put in certain positions, and when you get certain opportunities put in front of you, you have to take advantage of those opportunities because they may not be in front of you ever again."
