The rematch between Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola, who will fight for the WBC heavyweight belt vacated by Vitali Klitschko, is being targeted for April, Arreola's promoter Dan Goossen, told RingTV.com.

Goossen and Stiverne's promoter, Don King, reached an agreement last month to host the fight, a move that canceled a purse bid that was scheduled for Jan. 24.

"We're just working on trying to secure a television date, and Don and I are working together feverishly to get this thing placed," said Goossen. "We want to get the fight on within that 90-day period required by the letter given out by the WBC, which was mid-to-late April."

In his last fight in April 2013, which was designated as a WBC elimination bout for the right to face Klitschko, Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 knockouts) scored a third-round knockdown on the way to a unanimous decision over Arreola (35-3, 30 KOs), whom Klitschko stopped in September of 2009. In his last fight in September, Arreola knocked out Seth Mitchell in the first round.

Klitschko, 42, vacated his title to run for president in Ukraine and was subsequently named “Champion Emeritus” by the WBC, granting him the option of being able to return to the ring at any time and be eligible to fight for the title against the reigning beltholder.
