British super middleweight contender George Groves is demanding the British Boxing Board of Control rule his loss to Carl Froch last November a ‘no contest’.

The 25-year-old from west London has written to the BBBoC requesting the only blot on his career record is removed from the history books.

Groves has already won an appeal to the IBF to be installed as mandatory challenger for its 168-pound title after his first shot at holder Froch ended in major controversy.

Ahead on points Groves was deemed unable to continue midway through the ninth round by British referee Howard Foster – much to the shock, frustration and anger of everyone watching the thrilling grudge scrap at the Manchester Arena.

But it appears the IBF ruling in his favour last month is not sufficient for Groves, who now wants the BBBoC to follow suit and overturn his first reverse in 20 professional outings.

"It’s really important to me that the Froch fight is declared a no contest. I’ve never had a loss against my name before and I have no intention of ever having one in my career, “ said THE RING No.5-ranked super middleweight to Sportsvibe.“I can’t count my last fight against Froch as a defeat as I clearly don’t accept the result and neither, judging by the fact that they have ordered Froch to fight me next up, do the International Boxing Federation. Only the British Board as the host Board for the previous fight can make that judgement but I’m hoping all the evidence will make them declare it null and void.”

“Myself, my lawyer and my trainer, Paddy Fitzpatrick, attended a hearing on January 15th in New Jersey with the IBF who had present three boxing referees to study footage we provided.

“We also brought to their notice the fact that Howard Foster had liked a facebook message the day before the fight saying how Froch would stop me in the ninth round, although he says his page had been hacked into.“The IBF agreed with us on all our points and ordered the rematch making me the mandatory challenger.”
However, Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn, who promoted the previous Froch-Groves show, is convinced the appeal to the BBBoC is doomed.

Asked on Twitter if he thought Groves (19-1, 15 knockouts) stood any chance of getting the result eradicated, Hearn responded: “No.”
