Super middleweight George Groves was granted a rematch with IBF belholder Carl Froch last week, but the previously unbeaten fighter did not get his wish for a purse increase in their planned return bout.

That's because the IBF on Thursday turned down a request by the Groves camp for an improvement from the organization's purse standard.

"Earlier today the IBF/USBA Board of Directors reviewed the arguments of George Groves and his attorney to increase his percentage of a potential purse bid split for the rematch with Carl Froch from the standard 15 percent for the boxer rated No. 3 or below to 25 percent,"  IBF public relations director Jeanette Salazar stated in an email.

"Carl Froch and his attorneys argued to maintain the standard split of 85 percent to the champion and 15 percent to the challenger," she added. "The Board voted unanimously to maintain the 85 percent to 15 percent split."

On Jan. 24the IBF mandated that Froch (32-2, 23 knockouts) must grant Groves (19-1, 15 KOs) a rematch within 90 days or risk being stripped of his belt. The IBF's announcement came after a commission reviewed Froch's controversial ninth-round TKO over Groves in November during which Froch was floored in the first round.

Froch came up with his fourth straight win and his third knockout during that run against Groves since falling to Andre Ward by unanimous decision in December 2011 in their bout for THE RING, WBA and WBC belts.
