Streaking RING/WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson could pursue his 11th consecutive knockout against Chicago-based Polish contender Andrzej Fonfara on HBO in May in accordance with a deal that is close to being finalized, Stevenson's promoter Yvon Michel informed RingTV.com on Friday.

Stevenson (23-1, 20 knockouts), a  36-year-old southpaw who scored four stoppage victories over the course of 2013, is coming off November's sixth-round knockout of Tony Bellew. The 26-year-old Fonfara (25-2, 15 KOs), meanwhile, has won 15 straight, 12 of them by stoppage, including the past three in a row.

"He's the No. 1 fighter on our list," said Michel of Fonfara, who last suffered defeat against Derrick Findley by second-round knockout in July of 2008. "We're talking about a May date," said Michel. "It's not finalized yet, but it's a May date in Montreal."

Fonfara was last in action during December's second-round knockout of Samuel Miller that followed a ninth-round stoppage of ex-beltholder Gabriel Campillo in August.

Fonfara is in line to face Dmitry Sukhotsky (21-2, 16 KOs) in an eliminator for the right to face IBF 175-pound beltholder Bernard Hopkins, but Michel said Fonfara's promoter has pulled out of that situation after having begun discussions for a shot at Stevenson.

"I understand that he was supposed to participate in a purse bid for a title eliminator to fight against Sukhotsky for the right to fight Bernard Hopkin," said Michel. "I've had some discussion with his promoter, and we have not come to an agreement, but we are close enough that he was comfortable enough to cancel the purse bid and wait for us."

Michel spoke from Montreal where he is promoting tonight's HBO-televised 175-pound bout between former light heavyweight champ Jean Pascal, whom Michel handles, and former IBF super middleweight titleholder Lucian Bute at Bell Centre.

Stevenson said he and Michel plant to meet with officials over the weekend concerning the date.

"We're having a meeting with my promoter and HBO and my manager and my trainer, and meeting is on Sunday in Montreal," said Stevenson. "We should know on Monday. We have a schedule, and my promoter and everyone will get together and see what's going to happen. I will know everything on Monday."

In other news, Stevenson said he was honored to have been chosen 2013 Fighter of The Year by THE RING in the March edition of the magazine.

"I'm very happy with that," said Stevenson. "I want to thank Ring magazine and all of my fans. I'm very, very happy with that. It's a dream come true."
