Former featherweight titleholder Daniel Ponce de Leon pitched a shutout over junior lightweight rival Joksan Hernandez, against whom he scored a fourth-round knockdown in Cancun, Mexico.

A 33-year-old southpaw, Ponce de Leon (45-5, 35 knockouts) won the 10-rounder by identical scores of 100-89 on all three cards against Hernandez (23-6-1, 15 KOs), who is 1-3-1 in his past five fights.

Ponce de Leon was in his first bout since May, when he was dropped twice and dethroned as WBC featherweight beltholder by Abner Mares.

De Leon had won the belt in September of 2012 by eighth-round technical decision over Jhonny Gonzalez, ending his 12-fight winning streak which included 11 knockouts. Gonzalez regained the belt with a first-round knockout of Mares in August.

JORGE ARCE MAKES EMPHATIC RETURN, STOPS JOSE CARMONA IN EIGHTH ROUND

Mexican former titleholder Jorge Arce (62-7-2, 47 KOs), who had last been in the ring for last December’s third-round stoppage loss to Nonito Donaire, scored two knockdowns during Saturday night’s eighth-round stoppage of featherweight rival Jose Carmona (22-4, 12 KOs) in San Luis Potoni, Mexico.

In victory, Arce ended a four-bout winning streak by Carmona, who, at 24, is 10 years younger than his conqueror.

RONALD CRUZ SCORES THIRD STRAIGHT KNOCK OUT

Junior middleweight Ronald Cruz (20-2, 15 KOs) stopped Hector Munoz (22-12-1, 14 KOs) in the third round on Saturday night for his third consecutive knockout victory at The Sands Casino Resort in Bethelehem, Pa.

In a junior welterweight bout, Jason Sosa (11-1-3, 7 KOs) came up with his seventh straight win and his sixth consecutive stoppage in the fourth round over Bryne Green (7-8-1, 3 KOs) as part of a show that was promoted by Russell Peltz.
