Demetrius Andrade W 12 Vanes Martirosyan: Demetrius Andrade and Vanes Martirosyan might be the most under appreciated fight between two former US Olympians. Martirosyan has been a pro for quite a bit longer.

He stepped up his game a bit against Erislandy Lara and wound up getting unlucky with a technical draw. Vanes had looked like a fighter who had regressed, taking on middling and unspectacular opposition far too often.

altAndrade had the same issue of facing over-matched opponents all the time but is starting to come on. In my opinion, he has the ability to be an Andre Ward type surprise.

Ward wasn’t very highly thought of as he stepped into the top tier, but it was there he showed what he was made of. In a technical fight, I favor Andrade to get off with his jab and give Martirosyan some problems out of the southpaw stance.

Martirosyan struggled mightily with another lefty, Kassim Ouma, but showed a better gameplan against lefty Lara. If Andrade can be a bit more active than usual, he can make the fight lean his way. Should be close, but a 116-112 decision for Andrade is what I’m thinking.

Record: 13-3 [Golovkin KO 3 Stevens]

Demetrius Andrade W 12 Vanes Martirosyan: Vanes Martirosyan and Demetrius Andrade are both undefeated former Olympians. Martirosyan’s biggest bout was last year’s draw against Erislandy Lara. Andrade hasn’t faced a fighter of Lara’s abilities.

Martirosyan is a solid fighter, but Andrade is quicker and boasts a strong jab. In toss-up fights like these, I tend to go with the fighter who I believe has more talent. In this case, it’s Andrade, who wins here by a close decision.

Record: 9-5 [Golovkin TKO 4 Stevens]

Demetrius Andrade W 12 Vanes Martirosyan: This is probably a a better fight on paper than what will turn out to be inside the ring. I expect a tactful and dull but close fight in which both men will have their moments.

I think Demetrius Andrade should be able to do enough to secure the win via close decision, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Vanes Martirosyan pull it out either. It’s that type of fight.

Record: 20-9 [Golovkin KO 3 Stevens]

Demetrius Andrade W 12 Vanes Martirosyan: I think Demetrius Andrade will have a breakout performance against Vanes Martirosyan. I just think Andrade’s speed will be the deciding factor in this one, as he likely wins a decision.

Record: 15-6 [Golovkin mid-round KO Stevens]

Vanes Martirosyan W 12 Demetrius Andrade: I picked against Vanes Martirosyan against Joe Green, and he really surprised me with his boxing skills and composure against a very hard-punching, tough opponent.

altDemetrius Andrade is a very talented and gifted type of kid, but very short on real professional experience at this point. My gut tells me to go with the flashier, more athletic guy.

But in a longer fight like this, I’m going to go on a limb and side with the more experienced guy. Vanes with a close 12 round decision.

Record: 17-6 [Quillin late-rounds KO Rosado]

Demetrius Andrade MD 12 Vanes Martirosyan: I know he has flown under the radar since turning pro, but I really believe Demetrius Andrade will emerge as a dominant fighter at 154 pounds.

Vanes Martirosyan has a bit more experience, but I like Andrade to utilize his southpaw skills and ring intellect to win a competitive decision.

Record: 11-4 [Golovkin KO 5 Stevens]

Demtrius Andrade UD 12 Vanes Martirosyan: In a battle of former United States Olympians, Vanes Martirosyan will test an unproven but extremely talented Demetrius Andrade.

This fight was originally scheduled for September in Los Angels under Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-Bryan Vera, but was canceled and rescheduled for this weekend in Corpus Christi.

Both fighters are big junior middleweights, but may not provide many fireworks. Andrade is a southpaw and probably does everything a little better than Martirosyan.

This is Andrade’s first shot on HBO, and he figures to impress, even though Martirosyan is far more experienced. Look for Andrade to use his superior hand and foot speed to box his way to a clear unanimous decision victory.

Record: 12-5 [Golovkin UD 12 Stevens]

Vanes Martirosyan W 12 Demetrius Andrade: An interesting looking matchup between the American representatives at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics at welterweight in Vanes Martirosyan and Demetrius Andrade.

Now both are world-rated junior middleweights, neither has tasted defeat as a pro, and each is keen to win his first world title. This looks to be a very close fight between two very closely-matched fighters. I think Andrade is the more naturally-skilled fighter.

That said, I think Martirosyan’s fight with super slick Erislandy Lara will hold him in good stead. When all is said, I feel Martirosyan will eek out a very close decision win that may even be controversial.

Record: 11-6 [Golovkin KO 4 Stevens]

By the margin of 12-4, the experts see Demetrius Andrade beating fellow undefeated Olympian Vanes Martirosyan for the WBO’s vacant junior middleweight belt.
