HBO has released a video during which Filipino-American boxer Nonito Donaire discusses his early life in advance of his featherweight debut and rematch against Vic Darchinyan on Saturday.

“I had my share of poverty. I was a weakly child. I was always sick. My father never thought of me fighting,” said Donaire, who turns 31 on Nov. 16. 

“I started fighting because that was something that my family was really into. My first fight, my father trained me for 45 days. At 11 years old, I was getting bullied, always being made fun of. Walking into the ring, I literally pissed in my pants, I was so scared.”

Donaire (31-2, 20 knockouts)  will meet the 37-year-old Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KOs) at The American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, on a that will include RING featherweight champion Mikey Garcia challenging WBO junior lightweight beltholder Roman “Rocky” Martinez,  as well as a junior middleweight clash between Vanes Martirosyan and Demetrius Andrade for the WBO’s vacant belt.

Darchinyan was an unbeaten IBF flyweight titleholder in July of 2007 when Donaire stopped him for a fifth-round knockout.

Darchinyan has won two straight since losing consecutive unanimous decisions to Anselmo Moreno and Shinsuke Yamanaka, and is coming off a fourth-round stoppage win over Javier Gallo in May.

Donaire, meanwhile, is looking to rebound after having been dethroned as RING 122-pound champion and WBO beltholder in his last fight in April by Guillermo Rigondeaux, who also holds the WBA title.
