Orlando Salido knocked out Orlando Cruz in the seventh round to win the vacant WBO featherweight title Saturday on the Timothy Bradley-Juan Manuel Marquez card Saturday in Las Vegas.

Salido (40-12-2, 28 knockouts) broke Cruz (20-3-1, 10 KOs) down with his relentless aggression and punching power. Cruz, the superior boxer, confounded Salido at times but the Puerto Rican didn’t have the power to keep his Mexican opponent off of him.

The end was brutal. Cruz’s back was against the ropes when Salido landed a hard right to his neck and followed with a left uppercut, which sent Cruz to his knees. He clearly could not fight any longer.

The official time of the stoppage was 1:05.

Salido has now won a 126-pound title for the fourth time. He formerly held the IBF (on two occasions) and the WBO belt, which he lost to Mikey Garcia in January. Garcia lost the title on the scales in his next fight.

Cruz was fighting for a world title for the first time.
