By the process of elimination, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer could soon be looking to match WBO middleweight titleholder Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin against promotional stablemate Danny Jacobs.

Schaefer informed RingTV.com recently that he had attempted to match Quillin against England’s Martin Murray, only to have Murray’s promoter, Richard Poxon, “f___ that fight up.”

Schafer also said that Gabriel Rosado “priced himself out” of a potential fight with Quillin.

Quillin and Jacbos are each advised by Al Haymon, meaning that a clash between the two is much easier to make.

“The plan is for Peter to come back on the Hopkins card on Oct. 26. I talked this morning with Al Haymon, and we’re going to be looking at some other names,” said Schaefer, referring to a matchup between light heavyweight titleholder Bernard Hopkins and Karo Murat on Oct. 26.

“This Danny we’re seeing today is a Danny who is on a different level than he was prior to his illness. He’s going to go into that Quillin fight, eventually, with a great chance to win. This is a fight that we’re going to try to do, and I have talked to Peter and to Al about that as well. Obviously, it would be a big fight for Barclays Center so we’ll see when it can be put together.”

Having returned to boxing after overcoming paralysis caused by a large, malignant tumor on his spine, Jacobs (26-1, 23 knockouts) is coming off of a sensational third-round stoppage of former title challenger Giovanni Lorenzo on Aug. 19 that represented his sixth straight knockout in as many consecutive victories over a man who had never been knocked out.

In his past two fights at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Quillin (29-0, 21 KOs) dropped his man six times on his way to a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Hassan N’Dam for the WBO belt last October, and he scored four more knockdowns during a seventh-round stoppage of Fernando Guerrero in his first defense of that title in April.

Schaefer said, however, that Jacobs suffered a cut during the victory over Lorenzo that could delay a meeting with Quillin.

“Given that Danny Jacobs has a cut, we need to see how that cut is coming along. But I know that it’s a fight that Danny would like, and I think that it’s a fight that Danny has earned, given his spectacular performance in his last fight. I believe that he has definitely earned that title shot. I think that there is absolutely no question about it now that he has silenced all of the critics with his performance,” said Schaefer.

“Before that, people thought that it was premature to have Danny fight for a world title and that he doesn’t really deserve that based on the opponents that he had fought in his comeback. But I think that Danny, today, is bigger and better and stronger than he ever was. Bernard [Hopkins] put it very well: Danny has a totally different outlook on life. He got a second chance on life, and I think that he’s one determined man. Nothing is going to stop him.”
