Broner-Maidana is getting closer to being made

Since it has been a few days since we’ve heard anything about a pending Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana welterweight match up, we caught up with Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez at the final press conference for Saturday’s Abner Mares vs. Jhonny Gonzales bout at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

Here’s my brief conversation:

Massengale: Okay, everybody’s wondering, when are Maidana and Broner going to get it on?

Gomez:  It’s close. It’s close. We’re talking to both fighters. They are both willing to fight each other. It’s in negotiations right now. Both guys are willing to fight each other and that’s the most important thing. It’s just a matter of crunching numbers.

Massengale: Let’s say it is Nov. 9. Where would the fight take place?

Gomez: There’s a possibility of Las Vegas or Los Angeles, but we’ll see.

Massengale: With Maidana signing with (manager) Al Haymon, is that going to help get this done?

Gomez: That’s going to make it very easy.

So there it is. It’s a done deal that’s waiting for the ink to dry on the paper.

Meanwhile, get ready for Broner to start verbally smacking Maidana, the entire country of Argentina, gauchos, that country’s soccer team, and anything else that comes to Broner’s mind. This is a definite certainty.
