Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz confirmed to RingTV earlier this week the lineup for the Sho-Extreme portion of next Saturday’s card taking place at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, Calif. The Showtime Championship Boxing telecast features intriguing matchups Abner Mares against Jhonny Gonzalez and Leo Santa Cruz against Victor Terrazas.

The main attraction on the Sho-Extreme portion of the card is junior welterweight Antonio Orozco, who will meet Colombian Ivan Hernandez in a ten-round bout.

The 25-year old Orozco (17-0, 13 KOs) of San Diego, last fought in May, taking out Jose Reynoso in the seventh round of his biggest step up so far.

Hernandez (29-3, 23 KOs) hasn’t fought since getting in the ring twice in 2011. Prior to that, he had a four-year layoff. In his biggest fight, Jose Miguel Cotto stopped him in the tenth and final round in 2005.

Also slated to appear on the Sho-Extreme telecast are U.S. Olympic teammates Joseph Diaz Jr. and Dominic Breazeale.

At 27, Breazeale, of Anaheim, Calif., is getting moved quickly and will face the experienced Lenroy Thomas in an eight-round bout.

The 20-year old Diaz, of South El Monte, Calif., will face Noel Mendoza, of Phoenix, Ariz., in a six-round bout. This will be Diaz’s sixth bout of 2013.

Beltran to participate in Reddit “Ask Me Anything”

It’s taken nearly fifteen years for lightweight Raymundo Beltran to earn his shot at a title. On Sept. 7, Beltran travels to Scotland to meet WBO titlist Ricky Burns for his belt.

Prior to that, Beltran will participate in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session on Sunday at noon Pacific Time. For those unfamiliar, Reddit is a social networking site where celebrities have often engaged in Q&A sessions with fans.

Given Beltran’s tough road to his current spot and his longtime role as sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao, he’ll serve as a great subject for Reddit. To participate, head to the boxing area of Reddit at the scheduled time.

Aug. 24 club show in Las Vegas

Though there’s been no shortage of big fights in Las Vegas in recent years, there has been a dearth of cards on the club show level, making it difficult for the many young fighters from the area to fight in front of their friends and family.

On Aug. 24, newly launched Pochuro Promotions hopes to help change that, beginning with their card headlined by local favorite Jesus Gutierrez, an unbeaten lightweight.

The popular Gutierrez (9-0, 2 KOs) will headline against an opponent to be determined in an eight-rounder. He’s fought on many of the bigger undercards and usually sells the most tickets and is in the most entertaining fight. His popularity is evidenced by the fact he will sometimes bring 50 supporters with him just to a weigh-in.

A five-bout undercard rounds out the card: Pedro Toledo vs. Antton Slaughter at junior lightweight, Bronson Stultz vs. Eric Goodall at junior welterweight, Yosigey Ramirez vs. Sergio Lopez at flyweight, Brady Rein vs. Yosmani Abreu at junior middleweight, and David Yanez vs. Cesar Valenzuela at junior lightweight. All bouts will be scheduled for four rounds except for Yanez-Valenzuela, which is slated for six rounds.

Tickets are priced at $50 for ringside, $35 for floor seats, and $20 for general admission and can be purchased at pochuroboxing.com.
