THE RING’s No. 1-rated junior welterweight, Lucas Matthysse, has said he is hopeful that fellow Argentine Marcos Maidana gets a shot to take the “head off” of unbeaten WBA 147-pound beltholder Adrien Broner, who, in turn, said he’d like to take down Maidana and Matthysse in succession.

Maidana (33-3, 30 knockouts) and Broner (27-0, 22 KOs) could meet if Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer can make the fight happen, while Matthysse (34-2, 32 KOs) and RING champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KOs) are slated to fight on Sept. 14 for Garcia’s WBA and WBC junior welterweight belts.

“Your a dam fool if you think @ChinoMaidana can beat me lol,” wrote Broner on his Twitter account. “And when I’m done when this b–ch @ChinoMaidana, I’m go f–k Matthysse up.”

Following his decision win over Paulie Malignaggi in June, Broner announced in his post-fight interview that, in response to criticism that he has fought hand-picked opponents, he’d let the fans decide who he fights next. Subsequently, RingTV.com posted a poll in which readers selected Matthysse, with Maidana as the runner-up.
