Mexican junior lightweight Sergio Thompson has scored 11 consecutive knockouts heading into an Aug. 17 clash with Tokyo’s WBC beltholder, Takashi Miura, that is slated for Cancun, according to Golden Boy matchmaker Robert Diaz.

Promoted by Golden Boy, the stone-fisted Thompson (27-2, 25 knockouts) scored his most significant win in March of last year with a second-round knockout of ex-beltholder Jorge Linares.

Thompson will face Miura (25-2-2, 19 KOs), a fellow 29-year-old who won the title by flooring Gamaliel Diaz four times on the way to a ninth-round stoppage in April.

In an event to be televised on Televisa and Fox Deportes from Plaza de Toros in Cancun, also featured will be female Filipino featherweight Ana Julaton (12-3-1, 2 KOs) against Mexico’s Celina Salazar (3-1-2, 1 KO).

Also part of the card could be junior lightweight Adan Mares (9-0, 3 KOs), who is the younger brother of RING No. 5-rated pound-for-pound and WBC featherweight titleholder Abner Mares.

“We’re still working on the rest of the card,” said Diaz. “But right now, that’s what it looks like.”

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the bouts to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Televisa broadcast will air on Canal 5 beginning at 10:30 p.m. CT in Mexico, and the FOX Deportes broadcast will air live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT in the United States.
