David Haye and Tyson Fury will face each other in an all-British heavyweight non-title contest on Sept. 28 in Manchester, England.

A joint statement from Hayemaker Promotions and Hennessy Promotions on Tuesday confirmed that the long-rumoured showdown between English rivals Haye and Fury, THE RING’s Nos. 3 and 8-rated heavyweights, respectively, is happening at the 21,000-capacity MEN Arena.

“David Haye and Tyson Fury, both world-ranked, charismatic and dangerous, have agreed to a highly-anticipated domestic showdown on Saturday September 28 at the Manchester Arena,” read the media release. “It marks not only the biggest heavyweight encounter of 2013, but also the biggest fight staged in Britain for many years.”

That news followed comments on Twitter 24 hours earlier from former heavyweight and cruiserweight titleholder Haye revealing he had signed the contract, reputedly worth $5 million to each fighter, and was waiting for unbeaten Fury, 25, to do likewise.

Now, though, all the speculation, which has accompanied months of verbal sparring between the two about a possible grudge clash, can give way to some serious pre-fight trash-talking. Both men are renowned for a brash mouth and a press conference this Thursday to announce further details of the fight could be a belter.

The 32-year-old Haye (26-2, 24 knockouts) has not fought in 13 months, since his fifth-round KO of countryman Dereck Chisora at West Ham football club, east London. The ex-WBA heavyweight holder, from south London, withdrew from a June bout against American Manuel Charr with a hand injury.

Fury (21-0, 15 KOs) has been climbing the rankings fast over the past year and in April forced a seventh-round stoppage against Steve Cunningham in New York. As of yet, he has made no comment on the latest developments.
