HBO’s documentary 2 Days: Gennady Golovkin has accumulated more than 2.5 million viewers, surpassing last year’s average of 2.1 for the installment in advance of the WBA middleweight titleholder’s bout against Matthew Macklin on Saturday night in Mashantucket, Conn., according to the network.

The Kazakhstan-born Golovkin (26-0, 23 knockouts) most recently notched his13th consecutive KO in March with a third-round knockout of Nobuhiro Ishida, who was stopped for the first time in his career. The win over Ishida followed Golovkin’s bloody, seventh-round stoppage of Gabriel Rosado at New York’s Madison Square Garden in January.

Macklin (29-4, 20 KOs), who, like, Golovkin, is 31, was last in the ring for September’s first-round stoppage of ex-titleholder Joachim Alcine after losing back-to-back fights against Sergio Martinez and Felix Sturm.

ANTHONY OGOGO ADDED TO JULY 13 KELL BROOK-CARSON JONES CARD

English 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Anthony Ogogo (2-0, 1 KOs), of Great Britain, who has fought twice since signing with Golden Boy in December, will face a middleweight rival to be determined on July 13 in Hull, England,  as well his Olympic bantamweight gold medalist teammate Luke Campbell.

The card will also feature welterweights Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KOs), of England, and, Carson Jones (35-9-3, 25 KOs), of Oklahoma City, in a rematch of Brook’s majority decision victory that ended Jones’ winning streak of eight consecutive knockouts on July 7 of last year.

ALEJANDO PEREZ RETURNS ON JULY 13

Featherweight Alejandro “El Alacran” Perez (17-3-1, 11 KOs), of Salinas, Calif., will take on Mexico City’s Edgar Riovalle (35-14-2, 25 KOs) at the Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, Calif., on July 13, Top Rank, Bash Boxing and Art of Boxing Promotions announced on Thursday.

“I’m hungry, I can tell you that. I live off this sport,” said Perez, whose bout will be televised as part of a Solo Boxeo Tecate boxing card to be aired on UniMas. “This is my life. Whatever I have to do to be on top, I will do. There are boxing fans who want to see a fight and that’s what they will see when I am in the ring.”

Perez, whose nickname is the Mexican version of Scorpion, is coming off February’s unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Art Hovhannisyan.

Also on the nine-bout card are lightweight Jose Roman (14-1-1, 11 KOs), of Garden Grove, Ca., light heavyweight Trevor McCumby (11-0, 9 KOs), of Chicago, featherweight Saul Rodriguez (9-0-1, 6 KOs), of Riverside, Ca., welterweight Zachary “Kid Yamaka” Wohlman (4-1-1, 1 KO), of Los Angeles, and, Ukrainian cruiserweight Vyacheslav Shabransky (3-0, 3 KOs).
 

UNBEATENS LUIS OLIVARES, JONATHAN PEREZ TO MEET ON JULY 5

Junior lightweight “Magic Man” Luis Olivares, Jr. (4-0, 3 KOs), of Glendale, Ariz., who is promoted by Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent), will face Puerto Rico’s Jonathan Perez (4-0, 2 KOs) on the July 5 undercard of a main event that will take place on ESPN Friday Night Fights from the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Conn.

The main event boasts light heavyweight Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (12-0, 8 KOs), of Montreal, Quebeck, against former middleweight title challenger Allan “Ghost Dog” Green (32-4, 22 KOs), of Tulsa, Ok., in a co-promotion with Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM).

In a co-feature, former IBF featherweight beltholder Billy “The Kid” Dib (35-2, 21 KOs), of Australia, meets “Machine Gun” Mike Oliver (25-3, 8 KOs), of Harford, Conn.
