Mikey Garcia put Juan Manuel Lopez down twice and stopped him at 1:35 of the fourth round of a featherweight fight Saturday night in Dallas.

Garcia (32-0, 27 knockouts) put Lopez (33-3, 30 KOs) down with a straight right in the second round and then again with a left hook preceded by a hard right in the fourth. Lopez got to his feet but was too badly hurt to continue, prompting the referee to stop the fight.

Garcia controlled the fight from the start with a flicking left jab but also did damage with hard, accurate shots throughout. Lopez, who returned from a one-year layoff in November, seemed to be overmatched.

Garcia failed to make weight on Friday, coming in two pounds over the 126-pound limit. Thus, he lost his WBO featherweight title on the scales. He said immediately afterward that he was ill during training camp, which contributed to his inability to make weight.

Garcia is THE RING featherweight champion.

Lopez, once a star, has now lost three of his past six fights – all three by knockout. Orlando Salido stopped him twice in 2011 and last year.

A full report will follow shortly.
