World titleholder Carl Froch will target a rematch with unbeaten American Andre Ward later this year following his thrilling, unanimous points victory in a war against nemesis Mikkel Kessler. The judges scored it 118-110,116-112 and 115-113, all to Froch. That last card was arguably the most accurate. Froch has always espoused brutal openness about the hardship of his chosen profession. There was a moment, post-fight, when he revealed: “If I went back 10 years, and I knew what I was going to have to go through, I’d probably have chosen another profession, perhaps a bricklayer.” It was a curious statement from a resolute champion bathing in the light of a classic performance. But that’s what you get in boxing. And with Froch: total honesty. That’s what this performance was all about.
