Fans who took part in a recent RingTV.com poll asking who would win a 140-pound showdown between RING champ Danny Garcia and No. 1 contender Lucas Matthysse aren’t giving Garcia much of a chance to beat the Argentine power puncher.

A significant majority — 76.6 percent — of the 4,000 votes picked Matthysse, who is coming off an impressive thrid-round stoppage of IBF beltholder Lamont Peterson, to knockout Garcia, who holds THE RING, WBC and WBA junior welterweight titles.

Only 9.9 percent of the votes picked Garcia, who recently defended his titles against former titleholder Zab Judah, to win — via decision; only 6.8 percent picked the Philadelphia native to win by KO.

Very few fans expect Matthysse, who has stopped 32 of his 36 opponents, to beat Garcia by decision, as that outcome only garnered 5.5 percent of the votes.

The Garcia-Matthysse match is being worked on by Golden Boy Promotions and Al Haymon, the promoter and manager for both fighters, and the anticipated showdown has a target date: Sept. 7 on the Showtime cable network (in the U.S.).
