Junior lightweight prospect Francisco Vargas will face unbeaten veteran Jose Aguiniga in the main event of a Fox Sports Net-televised card in Las Vegas the night before the Floyd Mayweather-Robert Guerrero showdown, according to Vargas’ manager Joel De La Hoya.

Vargas (15-0-1, 12 knockouts) was originally supposed to face the 31-year-old Aguiniga on the Saul Alvarez-Asutin Trout undercard on April 20, but the 28-year-old Mexican Olympian was recently offered a slot on a Fox Sports Net-televised card in Las Vegas on May 3, the night before Floyd Mayweather takes on Robert Guerrero on a huge Showtime Pay-Per-View event at the MGM Grand.

Aguiniga (33-0, 15 KOs) is more experienced than Vargas and has never been beaten as a pro but the savvy boxer has lost battles to the scale and has gone through many periods of inactivity during what should have been his prime years.

Aguiniga ended a a five-year retirement last year with two victories near his hometown of Oxnard, California. He fought at junior welterweight and lightweight. His fight with Vargas, who foguht seven times last year and all but one by knockout, will take place at junior lightweight and a minor title belt may be on the line.
