The Showtime-televised main event featuring newly-crowned IBF welterweight titleholder Devon Alexander against England’s unbeaten Kell Brook is headed for either Los Angeles or Las Vegas on Jan. 19, according to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer.

A southpaw, former IBF and WBC 140-pound beltholder, Alexander (24-1, 13 knockouts), who is 25, is coming off last month’s unanimous decision that dethroned hard-punching Randall Bailey, while Brook (29-0, 19 KOs), who is 26, is coming off last month’s third-round stoppage of Hector Saldivia.

Schaefer had also previously informed RingTV.com that he had targeted hard-hitting Argentine junior welterweight Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KOs) for the Alexander-Brook undercard.

Matthysse has scored four straight knockouts since sandwiching disputed decision losses to left-handers Zab Judah and Alexander in June of 2010 and June of 2011, respectively, around an eighth-round stoppage of left-hander DeMarcus Corley in January of last year.

Matthysse’s past two victories have been by fifth- and 10th-round knockout over former WBC 130-pound and lightweight beltholder Humberto Soto and previously unbeaten Nigerian southpaw Ajose Olusegun (30-0, 14 KOs) in June and September, respectively.

“We were planning on having Matthysse fight later on. He was supposed to fight in December in Argentina, but the fight fell through. So he’s been training,” said Schaefer, during a recent interview with RingTV.com.

“Instead of waiting until February, we’ve decided to give him an opportunity to fight in January, which he likes. So we’re working on finalizing an opponent for him. Eric Gomez is working on that, and we should finally have something in the next few days. He’ll be fighting at 140.”
