Unbeaten southpaw WBA beltholder, Austin Trout, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, will defend his belt against RING No. 10-rated junior middleweight, Delvin Rodriguez, as part of a Showtime-televised quadruple-header from the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on June 2, Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, informed RingTV.com on Friday.

The card’s main event already will feature LA-based unbeaten cruiserweight contender Lateef Kayode (18-0, 14 knockouts) of Nigeria against southpaw former light heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver (29-6, 20 KOs), with the co-feature matching undefeated middleweight prospect Peter Quillin (26-0, 20 KOs) and ex-junior middleweight champ Ronald “Winky” Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs).

The crown owned by Trout, who is 26, is not to be confused with the organization’s “super” champion, Miguel Cotto, who will defend his version opposite WBC welterweight titleholder, Floyd Mayweather Jr., on May 5 on HBO Pay Per View.

Trout ran his record to 24-0 with his 14th knockout in November, when he stopped Frank LoPorto in the sixth round after having dropped him in the first.

LoPorto represented the second defense of the crown Trout won in February of last year by unanimous decision over Rigoburto Alvarez before Alvarez’s partisan fans at the Arena Colseo in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 34-year-old brother of 21-year-old WBC titleholder, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Rigoburto was after his fourth straight victory and his third knockout during that run.

Trout followed up the victory over Alvarez with a unanimous decision over David Lopez in June, dropping Lopez in the 11th round.

In his past two fights, Rodriguez (26-5-3, 14 KOs) battled to a majority draw and a unanimous decision over Pawel Wolak in July and December of last year, respectively.

Prior to facing Wolak the first time, Rodriguez, who turns 32 in May, had lost three of his previous four bouts and had not been in the ring for nearly a year. The initial fight with Wolak was also Rodriguez’s 154-pound debut.

Named Fight of The Year by the Boxing Writers’ Association of America, Rodriguez-Wolak I was highlighted by Wolak’s fighting the entire second half of the fight while peering through severely cut and swollen eyes. The right side of Wolak’s face was marred by the large, grape fruit-sized hematoma.

Rodriguez-Wolak II took place as part of a stacked undercard whose HBO Pay Per View-televised main event featured Cotto scoring a 10th-round knockout over ex-titleholder Antonio Margarito.
