The past week was a relatively uneventful in the U.S. but quite busy elsewhere.

Two Asian fighters turned in big victories. WBC bantamweight titleholder Shinsuke Yamanaka (No. 9 last week) defeated veteran Vic Darchinyan (No. 4 last week) by a unanimous decision Friday in Yamanaka’s hometown of Tokyo.

As a result, Yamanka (16-0-2, 11 knockouts) jumps to No. 4 – behind only Nos. 1-3 Anselmo Moreno, Abner Mares and Joseph Agbeko – and Darchinyan (37-5-1, 27 KOs) drops to No. 9. Darchinyan, an Armenian-Australian, has lost two consecutive fights and three of his last five.

Meanwhile, WBA junior bantamweight titleholder Tepparith Singwancha (No. 5 last week) of Thailand stopped Tomonobu Shimizu (No. 2 last week) of Japan in the ninth round Wednesday in Kanagawa, Japan. Thus, Singwancha (20-2, 13 KOs) rises to No. 2 and Shimizu slips to No. 6.

Also Friday in Tokyo, featherweight Hozumi Hasegawa (unrated last week) of Japan bounced back from his fourth-round knockout loss to Jhonny Gonzalez last April to stop previously unbeaten but unrated Felipe Carlos Felix (18-1, 10 KOs) of Mexico in seven rounds.

Hasegawa (30-4, 13 KOs) replaces Rafael Marquez at No. 10 in the featherweight ratings. Marquez has lost his last two meaningful fights.

In the cruiserweight division, Denis Lebedev (No. 4 last week) retained his position by stopping unrated Shawn Cox (16-2, 15 KOs) of Barbados in two rounds Wednesday in Lebedev’s native Russia. Lebedev (24-1, 18 KOs) has won three straight since losing a split decision to Marco Huck in 2010.

Humberto Soto (No. 10 last week) of Mexico outpointed unrated Brazilian Claudinei Lacerda (14-3, 10 KOs) on Saturday in Cancun, Mexico. Soto (58-7-2, 38 KOs) faces Lucas Matthysse on June 23 in Los Angeles.

And WBC junior lightweight titleholder Takahiro Ao (No. 5 last week) of Japan outpointed unrated Terdsak Kokietgym (46-4-1, 31 KOs) of Thailand on Friday in Tokyo. Ao (23-2-1, 10 KOs) changes positions with Roman Martinez (No. 4 last week).
