Boxing commentator Rich Marotta, a respected former host of the Los Angeles-based radio show “Neutral Corner,” now calls fights for Top Rank Live on Fox Sports Net.

But he is also involved with RadioFlag, the brainchild of Anthony Roman, which is an interactive social media site that revolves around radio and launched nationally in October.

“It’s the first-ever social network for real-time radio. It’s not a recorded music or play-list service. You have radio interviewers, talk hosts, deejays, all connecting with their listeners and each other in real time,” said Marotta.

“This has to do with live interviews, and now, we’re plugging into internet radio stations also. Earlier this year, I was thinking in terms of RadioFlag and boxing.”

Although RadioFlag listeners are keyed into a variety of interests, Marotta emphasizes that the site would be particularly beneficial to boxing enthusiasts, using Saturday night’s Showtime-televised super middleweight clash between Andre Ward, of Oakland, Calif., and Carl Froch, of England, as an example.

Listeners can check to see which radio stations have Ward-Froch available by searching their station’s call letters on www.radioflag.com.

“For the upcoming Ward-Froch fight, if [promoter] Dan Goossen was on a radio station that was going to do an interview in Los Angeles, he could have that heard up in San Jose or across the country in New York,” said Marotta.

“Isn’t that great to create interest? With Froch, wouldn’t British listeners or European listeners like to be able to hear him? Well, with RadioFlag, they can do it. We are adding international listeners all of the time. Being heard in Great Britain, that’s the future of it.”
