RING No. 1-rated junior welterweight and WBA/IBF titleltholder Amir Khan will defend his belts against RING No. 6-rated counter part Lamont Peterson on his native United Kingdom’s Sky Sports Network from the Washington Convention Center on Dec. 10, Golden Boy Promotions has announced.

The 24-year-old Khan (26-1, 18 KOs) will face the 27-year-old Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KOs) in Peterson’s home town on HBO, whose televised co-feature has 29-year-old heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell (23-0-1, 17 KOs) of Brandywine, MD., taking on Timur Ibragimov (30-3-1, 16 KOs) of Uzbekistan in the most difficult challenge of Mitchell’s career.

Khan will be on Sky Sports for the first time since December of last year, when he vanquished RING No. 3-ranked junior welterweight Marcos Maidana (31-2, 28 KOs), of Argentina, by a unanimous decision in a clash during which Khan floored Maidana in the first round and survived a difficult 10th.

“Fighting in America can make it difficult for my British fans to see me live in action. But being on Sky Sports means they can cheer me on and enjoy the fight as it happens from home. I’m training harder than ever for this fight and I guarantee the fans won’t want to miss it.”

“Capitol Showdown: Khan-Peterson” brings a major network cable fight to Washington, D.C. for the first time since Kevin McBride ended Mike Tyson’s career with a sixth-round stoppage in June of 2005 on Showtime.

Khan-Peterson also brings HBO to the Nation’s Capitol for the first time since Riddick Bowe defended his WBA heavyweight belt with a second-round knockout of Jesse Ferguson on May 22, 1993. On the Bowe-Ferguson undercard, Roy Jones unanimously decisioned Bernard Hopkins for the IBF’s middleweight belt.

Khan-Peterson coverage will follow that of a defense the same night by RING No. 1-rated heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KOs) of his WBA, IBF and WBO titles against former cruiserweight titleholder Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KOs).
