Marcos Maidana is expected to fight on Sept. 23 in his native Argentina in response to his canceled matchup against Robert Guerrero.

Golden Boy Promotions match maker Eric Gomez said that Maidana will face an opponent to be determined in the Villa Ballester area of Buenos Aires, where Maidana has lived since he was 16.

The junior welterweight contender was supposed to have fought Guerrero on Aug. 27 on HBO but Guerrero had to pull out because of a shoulder injury.

The WBA then named Maidana what it calls its “regular champion.” Amir Khan is the WBA 140-pound titleholder.
