The handlers of heavyweight Sergei Liakhovich say his nose was broken in two places early in his fight on Saturday in Germany against Robert Helenius, who scored a sensational ninth-round knockout.

"Sergei was unable to breathe through his nose from the moment the first break occurred in the third round," Manager Tony Cardinale said.

Liakhovich, a Belorussian who lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., is expected to have surgery this week after he returns to the U.S. His trip back home was delayed because of Hurricane Irene.

Helenius (16-0, 11 knockouts) put Liakhovich (25-4, 16 KOs) down in the eighth round and then stopped him a round later with a perfect uppercut and five follow-up punches.
